Locked Out of Your Own Place in Highland Beach

The unit door clicks shut on the way to the elevator, the keys stay on the counter, or the keypad battery dies while you are at the beach. Here is how a Highland Beach lockout call goes, step by step.

1. You get Joe on the phone

Joe answers and Joe comes to your door — no call center and no subcontractor. Highland Beach is just up the road from our Boca Raton base, so he can usually tell you on the first call when he will be there.

2. We ask about the door

Is it a unit door with a deadbolt and handle set, a keypad, an impact door or a slider to the balcony? The door decides the method. Texting a photo of the lock to 561-406-9944 before we arrive helps a lot.

3. A quote and an honest ETA

You get the price and arrival time on the phone, before we set out. No low teaser number, and if the door is different from what you described, we stop and ask before doing anything more.

4. We confirm you live there

A photo ID and something linking you to the unit or home: a lease, a deed, a utility bill or a record from the building office. Owners, renters and seasonal residents are all fine. This check is what keeps your own door safe from strangers.

5. Entry without damage, wherever possible

Picking and bypass come first and leave the lock working just as it did. Drilling is only for a lock that has truly failed, and we explain it to you before it happens.

6. Fixing what caused the lockout

If the lock caused the problem, we can usually repair or replace it on the same visit so it does not happen again. If the door just closed behind you, you are back inside and done.

Highland Beach Doors Are Mostly Condo Doors

Most homes in Highland Beach are in condo buildings along the ocean and the Intracoastal, with some townhomes and single-family homes in between. That shapes how a lockout is handled.

Condo unit doors

Most unit doors have a deadbolt plus a handle set, and many buildings have their own rules about keys, spares and who can enter. We open your unit door; the building handles fobs, garage remotes and common areas.

Front desks and security

Many Highland Beach buildings have a front desk or security staff instead of a gatehouse. Let them know a locksmith is coming and have someone ready to let us up, and the job goes quickly.

Impact, sliding and French doors

Oceanfront living means impact-rated doors and sliders everywhere, often with multipoint hardware. These lock very differently from a simple deadbolt, so let us know what kind of door you are locked out of.

Keypads and smart locks

Dead batteries cause most keypad and smart lock lockouts we see in Highland Beach units. Many models hide a backup key cylinder or let you power them from outside, so the fix is often quick.

Gated Communities and the Neighborhoods We Serve

Most Highland Beach buildings control who comes in, and an unprepared front desk is the most common reason a lockout runs long. Call ahead and tell them we are on the way.

Oceanfront condos

The towers on the ocean side of A1A, including Boca Highland Beach Club, Toscana and Regency Highland. Unit doors, balcony sliders and building rules that vary from one association to the next.

Intracoastal side

The condos, townhomes and homes on the Intracoastal side of A1A, many with boat docks and private garages. A mix of older and newly renovated hardware.

Single-family homes

The private homes along A1A and the short side streets, from older beach houses to new estates. Entry doors, garage doors and gates all in play.

Seasonal and rental units

Many Highland Beach units sit empty part of the year or are rented by the season, and lockouts are common on arrival day. If you manage seasonal units, ask about our turnover rekeying.

What to Do While You Wait — and What Not to Do

✓ Worth doing

  • Walk around the house once: back door, lanai, garage side door and ground-floor windows sometimes turn out to be unlocked
  • Call anyone with a spare — a neighbor, family member, building manager or the front desk
  • Text us a photo of the lock and the front of the door
  • Tell the front desk or security that a locksmith is on the way
  • Find some shade or a cool spot — this is Florida, and the van will find you

× Not worth doing

  • Breaking a window or balcony glass. Impact glass costs many times more than a lockout call, and replacing it in a condo tower can take weeks and building approval
  • The credit-card trick. It does nothing to a deadbolt and it can damage the latch
  • Taking off the hinge pins. On modern exterior doors the pins sit on the inside, and removing them can wreck the door and frame
  • Forcing the door. A bent jamb or cracked frame turns an easy job into a repair job
  • Calling a number with no local address and a price that sounds too good to be true. It is usually a call-center bait-and-switch

One more thing worth saying: if a key is lost rather than left inside, getting in is only half the job. Whoever finds it might be able to use it. A same-visit rekey makes the lost key worthless.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get me back into my Highland Beach condo without damage?

Almost always. We pick or bypass the lock first, and it keeps working normally afterward. Drilling is only for a lock that has failed, and we tell you before we do it.

What proof do I need that I live here?

A photo ID plus something linking you to the unit or home: a lease, a deed, a utility bill or a record from the building office. Owners, renters and seasonal residents are all fine. If your ID is inside, tell us on the phone and we will find another way to confirm.

How fast can you get to me in Highland Beach?

Highland Beach is a short drive from our Boca Raton base, and Joe gives you a specific arrival time when you call. We work 9 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week, and do not take overnight calls.

My building has a front desk and security. Does that slow things down?

Only if they do not know we are coming. Call the desk with our name and arrival time when you call us, and ask them to send us up or meet us at your floor. Then there is nothing else to wait for.

My building has a fob and a key for the unit. Can you help?

We open your unit door. Building fobs, garage remotes and common-area doors are managed by the association, so those come from the building office or your property manager.

Should I take the door off its hinges or break a window?

No. Impact glass costs several times what a lockout does and can take weeks to replace, especially in a condo tower. Removing hinge pins can ruin a modern door and frame. Calling us is almost always the cheaper way back in.

Can you open a sliding glass door or French doors?

Often, though it takes longer than a front door. Sliders and French doors use different latches and sometimes a second lock, so describe the door when you call and we will tell you honestly what to expect.

I am locked out anyway. Should I rekey while you are here?

It is worth thinking about, especially if you just bought the unit, a seasonal tenant just left, or the lost key could end up in the wrong hands. Since we are already there, a rekey takes little extra time and every old key stops working that day.
