Locked out, just moved in, or not sure who still has a key to your home? I handle every kind of home lock work myself, from lockouts and rekeys to high-security deadbolts and smart locks. Every job is quoted before I start.

Most home security problems come down to a handful of questions. Here is how I think about them.
Think about everyone who has had a key to your home: the previous owners, the realtor, a contractor, a dog walker, a housekeeper, a neighbor who watered the plants, an ex. Over the years most homes end up with keys you cannot account for. Rekeying fixes that in one visit. The locks stay on the door, and every old key stops working.
If your locks work well and you like how they look, rekeying is usually the better deal. If they are worn, sticking, corroded or cheap builder-grade hardware, replacing them makes more sense. On a lock change I can also key every door alike, so one key opens the front, back and garage entry.
Salt air and humidity corrode locks faster here than almost anywhere. A lock that gets stiff or needs jiggling is warning you. Fixing it early is cheaper than a lockout. More on that in my guide to salt-air corroded locks.
Standard locks can be picked or bumped by someone who knows how, and their keys can be copied anywhere. If you want real control over who can get in, high-security locks add pick and drill resistance plus keys that can only be copied with your permission.
I work in condo buildings and gated communities every week, including Century Village, Kings Point and Mission Bay. If your building has rules about which hardware you can use on the front door, tell me and I will match it. See all the towns I cover on the service areas page.
Do one or the other. You have no way of knowing how many copies of the old keys exist. If the locks are in good shape, rekeying is usually the cheaper option and every old key stops working.
In almost every case, yes. I use non-destructive entry tools. On the rare lock that cannot be opened that way, I explain your options before doing anything.
Yes. If your locks are the same brand or keyway, I can key them alike so one key opens every door. If they are mixed brands, I can recommend matching hardware.
Yes. I install and set up smart and keypad locks you already bought, and I can reprogram smart locks someone else installed.
It depends on the job, so I quote every job individually before any work starts. Estimates are free, and the price I quote is the price you pay.
