When a Lock Change Beats a Rekey

Lots of people who ask us for new locks really just need a rekey, and we will say so when it saves you money. But sometimes new hardware is the right answer, and these are the cases we see most in Coconut Creek.

The key fights you

It sticks, it grinds, or you have to turn it twice. A lock that has been fighting you for a while usually fails completely at a bad moment, and a rekey cannot fix worn parts.

Sun, sprinklers and humidity got to it

Coconut Creek is inland, but afternoon sun on west-facing doors and daily sprinkler spray wear locks out. Finishes peel, cylinders stiffen and springs weaken, and eventually replacing is the real fix.

It is builder-grade on a front door

Many Coconut Creek homes and condos still have the basic hardware they were built with. A better deadbolt with a solid strike plate is one of the least expensive security upgrades there is.

Someone tried to get in

Pry marks, a bent strike plate or a damaged cylinder face. The lock may still turn, but it is weaker now, and we would rather replace it than leave it on your door.

You want a different kind of lock

A keypad so caregivers, family or the dog walker do not need keys, a lever instead of a knob for easier gripping, or a smart lock that sends codes. Very popular in Coconut Creek’s 55+ communities.

The house does not match

Gold on one door, nickel on another and bronze on the third. Replacing everything with one finish and one key makes the house look finished and your keyring lighter.

What We Install in Coconut Creek Homes and Businesses

Deadbolts and handle sets

Single and double cylinder deadbolts, knobs, easy-grip levers and full entry sets in finishes from satin nickel to matte black and oil-rubbed bronze.

Impact and multipoint hardware

Impact and French doors lock at several points along the frame. We repair and replace this hardware, strikes included, with parts matched to your door — common in newer Coconut Creek homes and townhomes.

Mortise locks

Found on some older condo buildings, offices and storefronts. We replace the lock body or convert to a modern set, depending on what the door can take.

Keypads and smart locks

Installed, programmed and explained, with codes you control. See our keypad and smart lock options for models that hold up in South Florida.

Commercial hardware

Storefront cylinders, lever sets, panic bars and exit devices, and master keying on our commercial locksmith page. Useful for the shops on Lyons Road and the offices along Lyons Technology Parkway.

The smaller locks too

Hurricane shutter locks, mailbox locks and file cabinet locks — the small locks that cause real frustration when they stop working.

Lock Grades Explained Simply

Residential locks are graded by ANSI/BHMA from 3 to 1, and that grade tells you more than the brand. Here is what each means for a Coconut Creek home.

Grade 3: basic residential

The basic grade most builders use. Fine for interior doors, not what we would choose for the front door.

Grade 2: a sensible front door

Stronger inside and much longer-lasting for a small price difference. This is the grade we usually recommend for Coconut Creek homes, condos and rentals.

Grade 1: commercial duty

Made for doors that open hundreds of times a day, like storefronts, clubhouses and offices. Sometimes worth it on a home’s main door.

Something most people never hear: the strike plate and screws matter as much as the lock. Short screws in soft wood let even a Grade 1 deadbolt fail. We install long screws and a reinforced strike every time.

Before You Book a Lock Change in Coconut Creek

We do not post prices, because your hardware choice is most of the cost. You get an itemized quote before we start, and that quote is your price.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I change my locks or just rekey them?

Rekey when the hardware is solid and you only want the old keys retired. Replace when the lock is worn, damaged or builder-grade, or when you want something different, like a keypad. We will tell you which makes sense.

Can you change my locks the same day in Coconut Creek?

Usually. Common deadbolts, knobs and levers are on the truck. Impact-door hardware, mortise sets and unusual finishes sometimes need ordering, and we tell you up front.

Do I need HOA approval to change my front door lock?

Often. Wynmoor and many Coconut Creek condo and HOA communities have rules about exterior hardware and finish. A rekey rarely needs approval, since nothing looks different.

What lock brands and grades do you install?

Quality residential and commercial hardware from the major lock makers in Grades 3, 2 and 1. We usually suggest Grade 2 for Coconut Creek front doors and Grade 1 for businesses, and we explain the difference first.

Can you match the finish of the rest of my house?

Within what the manufacturer offers, yes — satin nickel, matte black, oil-rubbed bronze, polished brass and more. We can bring mismatched doors to one finish and one key.

My door has an impact or French door lock. Can you replace it?

In most cases. These doors use multipoint locks with bolts at several heights. A photo tells us the model, and we order the right set if needed.

Is there a warranty on new locks?

Yes, one year on parts and labor for everything we install. If something we put in fails within the year, we come back and fix it.

Can you install a keypad or smart lock instead?

Yes, and keypads with easy-grip levers are among our most popular upgrades in Coconut Creek, especially for seniors and rentals. We install it, set it up and show you how to manage codes.
