Locked Out of Your Own Place in Coconut Creek

The door locks behind you while you take out the recycling, the keys are in your other bag, or the keypad battery quits. It happens to everyone. Here is how a Coconut Creek lockout call goes from start to finish.

1. You get Joe on the phone

Joe takes your call and Joe comes to your door — no call center, no subcontractor. Coconut Creek is a short drive from our Boca Raton base, so he can usually give you an arrival time right on the call.

2. We ask about the door

Knob, deadbolt, keypad, impact door, French doors or a slider? The door decides how we open it. Texting a photo of the lock and door to 561-406-9944 before we arrive speeds things up.

3. A quote and an honest ETA

You hear the price and the arrival time before we leave. No low teaser that grows at the door, and if the job is different from what you described, we stop and ask first.

4. We confirm you live there

A photo ID and something tying you to the address: a lease, a deed, a utility bill or a record from the condo or HOA office. Owners and renters are both fine. That check is what keeps a locksmith from opening your home for someone else.

5. Entry without damage, wherever possible

We pick or bypass the lock first, which leaves it working just like before. Drilling is a last resort for a lock that has failed, and you hear about it before it happens.

6. Fixing what caused the lockout

If a broken lock caused the lockout, we can usually fix or replace it on the spot. If the door just shut behind you, you walk in and you are done.

Coconut Creek Homes Vary a Lot

Coconut Creek has huge 55+ condo communities, established single-family neighborhoods and newer gated townhome communities, all within a few miles. The door in front of you decides how the lockout is handled.

55+ condos and villas

Wynmoor and the other large condo and villa communities have unit doors with a deadbolt and handle set, plus their own rules on keys and entry. We open your unit; building keys and fobs come from the association.

Single-family homes

Winston Park, the Township, Banyan Trails and other neighborhoods have houses from the 1980s to today, with everything from original knobs to new handle sets. Most open quickly with the right tools.

Impact and French doors

Newer and remodeled homes and townhomes often have impact doors with multipoint hardware that locks into the frame at several points. It opens differently from a simple deadbolt, so tell us what you have.

Keypads and smart locks

Dead batteries cause most keypad and smart lock lockouts we see in Coconut Creek. Many models have a hidden key cylinder or an outside battery contact, so the fix is often quick.

Gated Communities and the Neighborhoods We Serve

Many Coconut Creek communities have a gate or a guardhouse, and that is the most common cause of delays. Call ahead and add us to the visitor list, and the rest is simple.

Wynmoor and the 55+ communities

Wynmoor and the other adult communities, with thousands of condo and villa units. Unit doors, storage rooms and association rules that we work with every week.

North Coconut Creek

The neighborhoods off Hillsboro Boulevard, Lyons Road and Johnson Road near the Parkland and Deerfield lines, including newer gated communities and townhomes.

Central and south Coconut Creek

Winston Park, the Township, Regency Lakes, Centura Parc and the neighborhoods around Coconut Creek Parkway and Sample Road. Established single-family homes and townhomes.

Rentals and seasonal units

Coconut Creek has many rentals and seasonal condos, and lockouts are common during move-ins and season changes. If you manage rentals, ask about our turnover rekeying.

What to Do While You Wait — and What Not to Do

✓ Worth doing

  • Walk around the house once: back door, lanai, garage side door and ground-floor windows sometimes turn out to be unlocked
  • Call anyone with a spare — a neighbor, relative, property manager or the condo office
  • Text us a photo of the lock and the front of the door
  • Tell the gatehouse we are coming so we are not held up at the entrance
  • Find some shade or a cool spot — this is Florida, and the van will find you

× Not worth doing

  • Breaking a window. Impact glass costs much more than a lockout call, and new impact windows can take weeks to arrive
  • The credit-card trick. It does nothing to a deadbolt and it can damage the latch
  • Taking off the hinge pins. On modern exterior doors the pins sit on the inside, and removing them can wreck the door and frame
  • Forcing the door. A bent jamb or cracked frame turns an easy job into a repair job
  • Calling a number with no local address and a price that sounds too good to be true. It is usually a call-center bait-and-switch

One more thing worth saying: if a key is lost instead of left inside, getting in is only half the fix. Someone could find it and use it. A same-visit rekey makes the lost key worthless.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get me back into my Coconut Creek home without damage?

Nearly always. We pick or bypass first, and the lock keeps working normally. Drilling is only for a lock that has truly failed, and we tell you before we do it.

What proof do I need that I live here?

A photo ID plus something linking you to the address: a lease, a deed, a utility bill or a condo or HOA record. Owners and renters are both fine. If your ID is inside, tell us on the phone and we will find another way to confirm.

How fast can you get to me in Coconut Creek?

Coconut Creek is a short drive from our Boca Raton base, and Joe gives you a specific arrival time when you call. We work 9 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week, and do not take overnight calls.

I live in Wynmoor or another gated community. Does that slow things down?

Only if the gate does not know we are coming. Wynmoor and most other gated communities in Coconut Creek check every visitor, so call the gate with our name and arrival time and we will drive right in.

My condo has a building fob and a key for the unit. Can you help?

We open your unit door. Building fobs, gate remotes and common-area doors are controlled by the association, so those come from your property manager or the condo office.

Should I take the door off its hinges or break a window?

No. A broken window costs several times more than a lockout, and impact glass is slow to replace. Pulling hinge pins can damage a modern exterior door and frame. Calling us is almost always cheaper.

Can you open a sliding glass door or French doors?

Often, though they take longer than a front door. Sliders and French doors have their own latches and sometimes a second lock, so describe the door when you call and we will tell you what to expect.

I am locked out anyway. Should I rekey while you are here?

It is worth considering, especially if you just moved in, a tenant just moved out, or the missing key could end up with a stranger. Since we are already there, a rekey adds little time and every old key stops working that day.
