Locked Out of Your Own Place in Wellington

You step out to the garage and the door locks behind you, the keys are on the kitchen island, or the keypad stops responding after a storm. Here is what happens when you call about a Wellington lockout.

1. You get Joe on the phone

Joe takes the call himself and is the one who comes to your door — no dispatcher, no subcontractor. Wellington is northwest of our Boca Raton base, so he tells you honestly on the phone when he can be there.

2. We ask about the door

Is it a front door with a deadbolt, a keypad, an impact door, a slider, a guest house door or a barn or tack room lock? The door decides the method. Texting a photo of the lock to 561-406-9944 before Joe arrives helps a lot.

3. A quote and an honest ETA

You get the price and the arrival time before Joe leaves. No teaser price that grows at the door, and if the lock is different from what you described, he stops and checks with you before doing more.

4. We confirm you live there

A photo ID and something linking you to the property: a lease, a deed, a utility bill or an HOA record. Owners, renters and seasonal tenants are all fine. That check is what keeps your own home safe from strangers.

5. Entry without damage, wherever possible

Joe picks or bypasses the lock first, and it works the same way afterward. Drilling is kept for a lock that has truly failed, and he tells you before he does it.

6. Fixing what caused the lockout

If a broken lock caused the lockout, Joe can usually fix or replace it on the same visit so it does not happen again. If the door just closed behind you, you are back inside and done.

Wellington Properties Come in Every Size

Wellington mixes townhomes and villas, family neighborhoods behind a gate, and horse properties with several buildings on one lot, and the type of property shapes how a lockout is handled.

Gated neighborhoods

Olympia, Binks Forest, Grand Isles, Versailles, Village Walk and Buena Vida all sit behind a gate or a guardhouse. Tell the gate a locksmith is coming and the lockout itself is usually quick.

Guest houses, barns and tack rooms

On equestrian properties the lockout is not always the main house. Guest houses, grooms’ apartments, barn offices and tack rooms all have their own locks and keys, and Joe opens them without damaging the door.

Impact, sliding and French doors

Newer Wellington homes often have impact-rated entry doors and big sliders to the pool with multipoint hardware. These lock very differently from a simple deadbolt, so let us know which door you are locked out of.

Keypads and smart locks

Most keypad and smart lock lockouts we see in Wellington come down to dead batteries. Many models hide a backup key cylinder or can be powered from outside, so the fix is often quick.

Gated Communities and the Neighborhoods We Serve

In Wellington’s gated neighborhoods, the most common delay is a gatehouse that does not know a locksmith is coming. Call ahead with our name and the job moves much faster.

Central Wellington

The neighborhoods around Forest Hill Boulevard, Wellington Trace and the Town Center, from Wellington Shores to Sugar Pond Manor. Equestrian areas, villas and townhomes with standard deadbolts and keypads.

Gated communities

Olympia, Binks Forest, Grand Isles, Versailles, Village Walk and Buena Vida. Newer homes, impact doors, smart locks and a gatehouse at the entrance.

Equestrian areas

Palm Beach Polo, Aero Club and the horse properties in the Equestrian Preserve south of Pierson Road. Main houses, guest houses, barns, tack rooms and farm gates.

Seasonal rentals

Riders, trainers and families rent homes in Wellington for the winter show season, and lockouts are common on move-in day. If you rent out a house or a barn apartment, ask about rekeying between seasons.

What to Do While You Wait — and What Not to Do

✓ Worth doing

  • Walk around the house once: back door, lanai, garage side door and ground-floor windows sometimes turn out to be unlocked
  • Call anyone who has a spare — a neighbor, family member, barn manager or property manager
  • Text us a photo of the lock and the front of the door
  • Let the gatehouse or barn manager know a locksmith is on the way
  • Find some shade or a cool spot — this is Florida, and the van will find you

× Not worth doing

  • Breaking a window. Impact glass costs far more than a lockout call, and replacing it can take weeks
  • A card in the latch. Most Wellington front doors have a deadbolt, so it won't work
  • Taking the door off the hinges. On an impact door it can damage the frame and void the door's rating
  • Forcing the door from the garage. It is often fire-rated and costly to repair or replace
  • Hiring an unnamed locksmith ad. Ask for a real business name before anyone comes to the building

Worth keeping in mind: if the key is lost rather than locked inside, getting back in is only half the fix. Whoever picks it up may be able to use it. A rekey on the same visit makes the lost key useless.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get me back into my Wellington home without damage?

In nearly every case. Joe picks or bypasses the lock first, so it keeps working normally. Drilling is only for a lock that has failed, and he explains it to you before he starts.

What do I need to show you at the door?

A photo ID plus something linking you to the property: a lease, a deed, a utility bill or an HOA record. Owners, renters and seasonal tenants are all fine. If your ID is inside too, say so on the call and Joe will find another way to confirm.

How soon can you reach my Wellington home?

Wellington is northwest of our Boca Raton base, so Joe gives you a realistic arrival time on the call. Hours are 9 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week, and there is no overnight service.

Can you open a barn, tack room or guest house door?

Yes. Barn offices, tack rooms, grooms’ quarters and guest houses are regular jobs in Wellington. Tell Joe which building it is and how to reach it on the property, and send a photo of the lock if you can.

My community has a gate remote and a clubhouse fob. Can you help with those?

Joe opens your door. Gate remotes, clubhouse fobs and community gates are run by your HOA, so those come from the gatehouse or the property manager.

Should I break the slider glass to get in?

No. Impact glass costs several times more than a lockout call and can take weeks to replace. Taking the hinge pins out can damage a door and its frame. Calling Joe is almost always the cheaper way back in.

Can you open a pool slider?

Usually, though it takes longer than a front door. Sliders and French doors use different latches and sometimes a second lock, so describe the door and Joe will tell you honestly what to expect.

Can you rekey my locks while you are here?

It is worth considering if you just moved in, a seasonal tenant just left, or the lost key could end up in the wrong hands. Since Joe is already there, a rekey takes little extra time and every old key stops working that day.
