Locked Out of Your Own Place in West Palm Beach

The front door swings shut while you take out the trash, the keys stay on the kitchen counter, or the keypad on the door goes dead. Here is how a West Palm Beach lockout call goes, step by step.

1. You get Joe on the phone

Joe answers and Joe comes to your door — no call center, no subcontractor. West Palm Beach is north of our Boca Raton base, so he gives you a straight arrival time on the first call.

2. We ask about the door

Is it an old wooden door with a mortise lock, a standard deadbolt and knob, a keypad, an impact door or a slider? The door decides how it gets opened. Texting a photo of the lock to 561-406-9944 before Joe arrives helps a lot.

3. A quote and an honest ETA

You get the price and the arrival time on the phone, before Joe sets out. No teaser number, and if the door turns out to be different from what you described, he stops and asks before going further.

4. We confirm you live there

A photo ID and something linking you to the home: a lease, a deed, a utility bill or mail with the address. Owners and renters are both fine. That check is what keeps your own door safe from strangers.

5. Entry without damage, wherever possible

Picking and bypass come first, and the lock keeps working exactly as before. Drilling is only for a lock that has truly failed, and Joe explains it to you before it happens.

6. Fixing what caused the lockout

If the lock caused the lockout, Joe can usually repair or replace it on the same visit so it does not happen again. If the door just closed behind you, you are back inside and done.

West Palm Beach Doors Come in Every Age

West Palm has some of the oldest houses in Palm Beach County right next to brand-new downtown towers, and the age of the door changes how a lockout is handled.

Historic homes and mortise locks

Many homes in El Cid, Flamingo Park, Northwood and Grandview Heights still have original wooden doors and old mortise locks set inside the door. They open differently from a modern deadbolt, and Joe handles them carefully so the original hardware keeps working.

Downtown condos and apartments

The towers along Flagler Drive and the buildings around The Square and Rosemary Avenue usually have a front desk, a concierge or a fob-controlled lobby. Let the desk know a locksmith is coming so Joe can get up to your floor.

Impact, sliding and French doors

Newer homes and renovated older ones often have impact-rated entry doors and sliders with multipoint hardware. These lock very differently from a simple deadbolt, so tell us what kind of door you are locked out of.

Keypads and smart locks

Dead batteries cause most of the keypad and smart lock lockouts we see in West Palm Beach. Many models have a hidden backup key cylinder or can be powered from outside, so the fix is often quick.

Gated Communities and the Neighborhoods We Serve

In gated communities and condo buildings, the most common delay is a gate or front desk that does not know we are coming. Call ahead with our name and the job goes much faster.

Historic neighborhoods

El Cid, Flamingo Park, Northwood, Old Northwood, Grandview Heights and the South End. Older wooden doors, original mortise locks, and homes that have been renovated one door at a time.

Downtown and the waterfront

Condo towers and apartments along Flagler Drive, Clematis Street, Rosemary Avenue and Okeechobee Boulevard. Unit doors, lobby access and building rules that vary from one association to the next.

Western communities

The newer neighborhoods west of I-95 and out toward the turnpike, including the gated communities. Standard deadbolts, keypads, garage entry doors and gates.

Rentals and short stays

West Palm has a lot of rentals, and lockouts are common on move-in day or when a guest heads out without the code. If you manage rentals, ask about rekeying between tenants.

What to Do While You Wait — and What Not to Do

✓ Worth doing

  • Walk around the house once: back door, lanai, garage side door and ground-floor windows sometimes turn out to be unlocked
  • Call anyone who has a spare: a neighbor, a family member, your landlord or your building manager
  • Text us a photo of the lock and the front of the door
  • Let the front desk, gatehouse or building manager know a locksmith is on the way
  • Find some shade or a cool spot — this is Florida, and the van will find you

× Not worth doing

  • Breaking a window or forcing a door. On an older home the original glass and woodwork are hard to replace, and on a newer one impact glass costs many times more than a lockout call
  • A card in the latch. Most West Palm front doors have a deadbolt, so it won't work
  • Taking the door off the hinges. On an older wooden door it can split the frame, and in a condo it can break association rules
  • Forcing a fire-rated unit door. Those doors are costly to repair and the building may charge you
  • Hiring an unnamed locksmith ad. Ask for a real business name before anyone comes to the building

One more thing: if your key is lost rather than locked inside, getting in is only half the job. Whoever finds it may be able to use it. A rekey on the same visit makes the lost key worthless.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get me back into my West Palm Beach home without damage?

Almost always. Joe picks or bypasses the lock first, and it keeps working normally afterward. Drilling is only for a lock that has failed, and he tells you before he does it.

What do I need to show you at the door?

A photo ID plus something linking you to the home: a lease, a deed, a utility bill or mail with your address. Owners and renters are both fine. If your ID is inside, say so on the phone and Joe will find another way to confirm.

How fast can you get to me in West Palm Beach?

West Palm Beach is north of our Boca Raton base, so Joe gives you a realistic arrival time when you call, based on where you are and the traffic. We work 9 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week, and do not take overnight calls.

My house is an older home with the original door lock. Can you open it without ruining it?

Yes. Older mortise locks in historic West Palm homes can usually be picked open like any other lock, and Joe works carefully so the original hardware keeps working. If a worn part needs replacing, he tells you first and gives you options.

I live in a downtown condo with a fob and a key. Can you help?

Joe opens your unit door. Lobby fobs, garage remotes and common-area doors belong to the building, so those come from the front desk, the building office or your property manager.

Should I break the slider glass to get in?

No. Replacing original glass on an older home or impact glass on a newer one costs far more than a lockout call and can take weeks. Pulling hinge pins can wreck a door and frame. Calling us is almost always the cheaper way back in.

Can you open a sliding glass door?

Often, though it takes longer than a front door. Sliders and French doors use different latches and sometimes a second lock, so describe the door when you call and Joe will tell you honestly what to expect.

Can you rekey my locks while you are here?

It is worth considering, especially if you just moved in, a tenant just left, or the lost key could end up in the wrong hands. Since Joe is already there, a rekey takes little extra time and every old key stops working that day.
